The Heart Behind the Brand: What It Means to Be a Founder

The Heart Behind the Brand: What It Means to Be a Founder

Being a founder is not the same as being a business owner, an investor, or a large brand with a board of advisors and teams of experts.

For me, being a founder means believing deeply — in a product, in the people it’s made for, and in the values that guide every decision.

I didn’t start Silvina LONDON because I saw a market opportunity. I started it because, as a woman with grey hair, I couldn’t find products that truly cared for it — without yellow tones, without harsh ingredients, and without making my hair look blue or dull.

So I created what I couldn’t find. I poured my savings, my energy, and my whole heart into this brand.

Real care also means real challenges

Running a small founder-led brand means I make every decision, from choosing ingredients to replying to every message myself. And when something goes wrong, I take responsibility for it.

Recently, a few customers noticed that the ink on some bottles starts to fade after a few uses. The product inside remains untouched — hydrating, non-yellowing, and full of love — but the outside hasn’t held up as I hoped.

I explained the situation in a personal email to our community, sharing openly how I had chosen a lighter ink to reduce waste and avoid heavy chemical coatings. It was a thoughtful decision, but it didn’t perform as expected. And yet, throwing away thousands of perfectly good bottles goes against everything I believe in.

I expected questions or complaints. But instead, I received the most beautiful, thoughtful replies, full of understanding, support, and kindness 💙.

Here are just a few:

"I did notice this but wanted to say it doesn’t bother me at all as the products are brilliant and keep my grey hair in tip top condition.”   JILL

Yes, I did have the same problem with fading print... but to be honest, it’s pretty obvious which is which. Well done for trying to find something more sustainable!”. DEBBIE

Thank you for enlightening me on the fading ink! I appreciate your kind gesture and wanted to personally let you know that it really doesn’t bother me.PAT

"It doesn’t bother me at all — and I love the ethos behind you changing the ink.SARAH JANE

These messages reminded me exactly why I created Silvina LONDON in the first place — to care for grey hair with honesty, thoughtfulness, and real connection.

Resilience means showing up

Being a founder means staying close — even when it’s difficult. It means working through stock issues, bottling challenges, and moments of self-doubt, while still writing a note from the heart and showing up with care.

Silvina LONDON is more than a grey hair care line. It’s a love letter to everyone who has embraced their natural hair and is looking for products made with purpose.
