Summer almost here, and I am heading to the water.
Before I get in, I always do one thing. A few drops of The Grey Hair Oil Ritual, worked through from the mid-lengths to the ends. It takes less than a minute. Then I get in.
I started this since developing the oil and I have never stopped. After swimming, my grey hair still feels like my grey hair. Soft, hydrated, nothing to rescue afterwards.
What I actually do to protect my grey hair, step by step
Before getting in the water I apply a generous amount of the Hair Oil from mid-lengths to ends. It creates a protective layer that shields your grey hair from chlorine and salt before they have a chance to penetrate. This one step changes everything.
After getting out I rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water, then apply a good amount of conditioner, massage it in well, and rinse again. No shampoo needed every time. I use shampoo every one or two days, not after every single swim. Your grey hair does not need it and it is genuinely better without it.
After the conditioner rinse, just style as usual. Your grey hair will feel completely normal, soft and healthy, not like it has been through a battle.
A question one of you sent me this week
After my Sunday email about the oil, I received this:
"After swimming what do you do? Wash your hair? Nothing? If I swim every day I don't want to wash my grey hair every day."
I loved this question because I know so many of you swim and wonder exactly the same thing. The routine above is my honest answer. Oil before, water rinse and conditioner after, shampoo every one or two days. Simple and it works.
Hair damage is one of the main reasons people hold back from swimming regularly. But doing these steps properly makes all the difference and lets you swim as much as you like without compromising your grey hair.
